University of Ghana Professor Ransford Gyampo emphasizes the significance of civil servants maintaining political neutrality for effective work delivery. He criticizes lecturers openly aligning with political parties, highlighting the importance of students feeling comfortable seeking guidance. Gyampo supports legal action taken by MP Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor against the Controller and Accountant-General's participation in NPP primaries while in office.
Gyampo welcomes the court's role in settling disputes regarding civil servants engaging in politics while holding official positions. Dafeamekpor's lawsuit argues that the Controller and Accountant General should resign per constitutional demands.
Dafeamekor's sought claims are as follows:
1. Declare that the Defendant, currently the Controller and Accountant General, is a civil servant, thus ineligible to participate in the New Patriotic Party's parliamentary primaries while holding the said office.
2. Declare that a civil servant can only partake in a political party's parliamentary primaries if they have resigned from their civil service position.
3. Request an Interlocutory injunction preventing the Defendant from representing himself as the Controller and Accountant General while maintaining his candidacy in the New Patriotic Party's parliamentary primaries on January 27, 2024.
