The organizers, in a late evening statement, expressed surprise as the government had approved the event back in November 2023. They regretted the sudden cancellation, apologizing to the guests and attendees from around the world and Ghana. Renowned African figures like P.L.O. Lumumba, Peter Obi, Julius Malema, and Dr. Arikana were set to speak at the event, which now stands canceled. The organizers hinted at more updates to follow. The cancellation was attributed to an unexpected state event planned at the same venue, as explained by Dr. Nadia Adongo Fynn from the Office of the President's Diaspora Affairs Directorate. Their decision revoked the earlier permission granted for 'The Convention' due to this unforeseen state event.
